A “Headless” Interview with an Aspiring Boxer

Ashanti Gibbs is a 30-year-old aspiring professional boxer who lives in Pinellas County but comes to Bradenton to train with former boxing champ — and notable local boxing coach — Aaron Avalos.

Avalos is unusual among boxing coaches in that he gets right in the ring and spars hard with his trainees. (He’s the one wearing the grey t-shirt.)

Gibbs isn’t making a living as a boxer yet, even after 10 professional wins, four by knockout. At least, he says, “it’s something to get from check to check.”

(FYI – A “headless” interview is one in which the interviewer doesn’t appear onscreen.)
